The Kedarnath Yatra 2026 has been temporarily halted due to severe weather conditions in Uttarakhand. Thousands of pilgrims have been affected after authorities stopped movement at Sonprayag and Gaurikund to ensure safety. Meanwhile, the Badrinath Highway has also been closed following a major landslide, creating difficulties for Char Dham Yatra devotees.
Why Was Kedarnath Yatra Stopped Today?
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for heavy rainfall and snowfall in Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts for the next 48 hours. Fresh snowfall along with strong winds was reported at Kedarnath Dham, while the Gaurikund–Kedarnath trek route became extremely slippery and vulnerable to falling stones. To prevent accidents and protect pilgrims, SDRF teams and Uttarakhand Police halted further movement at the Sonprayag barrier. More than 1,500
Char Dham pilgrims are reportedly stranded across Sonprayag, Sitapur, and Guptkashi base camps.
Due to the Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in Rudraprayag district, the Kedarnath Yatra has also been temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of devotees.

Badrinath Highway Landslide: Route Blocked
The Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) has been closed after a major landslide occurred between Lambagad and Hanuman Chatti near Joshimath. Heavy debris has disrupted road connectivity toward Badrinath Temple. Over 300 vehicles, including buses carrying pilgrims, are stuck, while BRO teams continue clearance efforts amid ongoing rainfall.
Uttarakhand Government Advisory for Char Dham Pilgrims
Authorities have advised devotees to postpone Kedarnath and Badrinath travel for at least two days. Kedarnath helicopter services remain suspended until weather conditions improve, and new Char Dham registrations have temporarily been closed at counters. Free food and shelter arrangements have been made for stranded pilgrims in Sonprayag and Joshimath.
As per the latest Char Dham weather update, conditions may improve after June 2, 2026. Officials will reassess the Kedarnath trek route and Badrinath highway status before reopening. Devotees are advised to rely only on official updates through government and tourism channels and avoid rumors while planning travel.
