The sacred shrine, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, has been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of thousands of pilgrims expected to visit during the monsoon season.
Why Is the Temple Closed?
The Nashik district administration announced the temporary closure after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, with the possibility of cloudburst-like conditions in parts of the district.
Authorities have urged devotees to postpone their visit and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve. Public darshan will resume only after the administration reviews the situation and declares it safe.
What You Need to Know
- Temple: Trimbakeshwar Temple, Nashik
- Closure Dates: July 7 and 8, 2026
- Reason: IMD heavy rain and cloudburst warning
- Darshan Status: Public darshan suspended
- Advisory: Pilgrims are requested to postpone their visit until further notice
The weather alert has prompted the district administration to implement several precautionary measures. Schools and colleges in rain-affected areas have been closed, weekly markets suspended, and disaster response teams deployed across vulnerable locations.
Continuous rainfall has also led to waterlogging, fallen trees, and traffic disruptions in several parts of Nashik. Pilgrims and tourists have been advised to stay away from hilly and landslide-prone areas until the weather stabilizes.
Located about 30 kilometres from Nashik city, Trimbakeshwar Temple is one of India’s holiest Shaivite shrines and attracts thousands of devotees every day. The temple witnesses a particularly large influx of pilgrims during the monsoon season.
Temple authorities have requested devotees to check official updates before starting their journey. The temple will reopen for public darshan only after weather conditions improve and safety assessments are completed.
