Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for the next two days due to the excessive rains forecast by the Meteorological Department of India.
The Meteorological Department of India has issued a red alert in Uttarakhand today, for the next two days forecasting heavy-to-heavy rains in almost all the districts of Uttarakhand. When Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has just begin to recover from a flashflood which swept away infrastructure and life in Dharali and Harshil, there comes a warning of harsh weather ahead.
Adhering to the latest weather forecast, Char Dham Yatra has been suspended by the respective District Administrations of Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Chamoli thus barring devotees to stay safe and not purse the Yatra ahead until the sky opens and sun begins to reshine.
The Badrinath Highway has been blocked at various locations due to the continuous landslides across the route. At certain locations, the road has been completely washed out. Despite the continuous efforts by Chamoli administration, it will take a lot of time to build the roads to at least evacuate the yatris. The continuous rains have been a block in pursuing the relief works.
Almost 1200 yatris were stranded between Badrinath and Helang due to the landslide at Bhanerpani on the Badrinath Highway. Yatris are being returned from Gauchar without having darshan of Sri Badri Vishal in Badrinath. Yatris are also being stopped in the areas with apt accommodation and basic infrastructure.
The Government of Uttarakhand has denied permissions for all the trekking routes in the state such as Valley of flowers, Satopanth-Swargarohini. All the tourists are being called back for safety. The dams are under constant monitoring to avoid waterlogging and flash floods.
Even the lower altitude routes such as Chandi Devi walking route, road to Neelkanth Mahadev, etc have been closed as a safety measure. All the schools and colleges are closed too for the next 2 days.
All the yatris on Char Dham Yatra are requested to stay wherever they are until they receive an update about the opening of the routes. Foreseeing incessant rains in Uttarakhand during the monsoon, Tirtha Yatra does not conduct Char Dham Yatras from July 01 to September 15 to ensure the safety of its yatris.
