According to officials, the new all-weather accommodation facilities have been developed at Nunwan, Baltal, and Pantha Chowk base camps to protect pilgrims from extreme weather conditions during the annual Baba Barfani Yatra. Located at an altitude of 12,756 feet, the Amarnath Cave Shrine often experiences heavy rain, cold winds, and sudden temperature drops during the pilgrimage season.
The newly built pre-fab structures are specially designed to withstand harsh Himalayan weather and provide modern facilities to thousands of devotees undertaking the Amarnath pilgrimage. Each building includes attached bathrooms, hot and cold water supply, pantry facilities, and spacious rooms for yatris.
Officials said every structure contains around 48 rooms and can accommodate a large number of pilgrims comfortably under one roof.
Both VIP pilgrims and general devotees registered for Amarnath Yatra 2026 will be allowed to stay in these upgraded facilities. The permanent structures are being developed on both major pilgrimage routes — the traditional Pahalgam route via Nunwan base camp and the Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
To further strengthen Amarnath Yatra safety arrangements, authorities, in partnership with ONGC, have also established permanent 100-bed hospitals with ICU facilities at Baltal and Chandanwari base camps.
With luxury accommodation, advanced medical facilities, and improved infrastructure, Amarnath Yatra 2026 is expected to offer devotees a safer, smoother, and more comfortable spiritual experience during the sacred journey to Baba Barfani.
