The 11-day festival is dedicated to Namperumal, the utsava Deity of Lord Ranganatha, who is taken in grand daily processions on various vahanams including the Karpaga Vruksha Vahanam, Simha Vahanam, Yaali Vahanam, Hanumantha Vahanam, and Garuda Vahanam. These vibrant rituals showcase the rich spiritual and cultural traditions of Sri Vaishnavism and form a major attraction for devotees visiting Srirangam during Chithirai festival celebrations.
The highlight of the festival is the grand Srirangam Therottam 2026, scheduled for May 14, 2026. On this auspicious day, thousands of devotees will participate in pulling the massive temple chariot carrying Namperumal through the temple streets amid Vedic chanting, devotional music, and traditional festivities.
The Srirangam Chithirai Car Festival is considered one of the most important temple festivals in Tamil Nadu, reflecting the timeless heritage, devotion, and architectural grandeur of the ancient Ranganathaswamy Temple.
