Ubha Ringan (Standing Ringan) is one of the most revered rituals of the Pandharpur Wari, performed during the annual Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi processions. In this ceremony, Warkaris stand in two parallel rows, creating a straight pathway through which the ceremonial horse (Ashwa), believed to symbolize the saint’s divine presence, gallops amid chants of “Gyanoba Tukaram,” devotional abhangas, and the rhythmic beats of cymbals and drums. Devotees regard the dust raised by the horse’s hooves as sacred and apply it to their foreheads as a mark of divine blessing.
Why is the Ubha Ringan So Special?
The Ubha Ringan holds immense spiritual significance for the Warkari community. It symbolizes faith, humility, devotion, and the enduring spiritual legacy of the centuries-old Warkari tradition. The ceremony is believed to represent the divine presence and blessings of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, making it one of the most emotional and spiritually enriching moments of the pilgrimage.
Unlike the Gol Ringan, in which the ceremonial horse runs in a circular path, the Ubha Ringan is conducted in a straight line. This unique tradition reflects the discipline, unity, and unwavering devotion of the Warkaris, creating a powerful atmosphere of collective faith.
Palkhi Continues Towards Pandharpur
Following the Ringan ceremony at Chandobacha Limb, the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi will continue its journey towards Taradgaon, moving steadily closer to the holy town of Pandharpur. The pilgrimage will culminate on Ashadhi Ekadashi, when lakhs of devotees will offer prayers to Lord Vitthal at the famous Vitthal-Rukmini Temple.
The first Ubha Ringan is one of the major highlights of the annual Wari, attracting devotees, pilgrims, photographers, and visitors from across Maharashtra and beyond. More than a ritual, it is a vibrant expression of devotion that has been preserved for centuries, inspiring generations of Warkaris and keeping alive the rich spiritual heritage of the Pandharpur Wari.
