Varanasi Airport Adds 10 New Flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Vijayawada

Among the airlines expanding operations from Varanasi, Air India Express is adding the highest number of new services, strengthening connectivity with key metropolitan destinations.

New Flight Services from Varanasi

Air India Express will introduce two additional services between Varanasi and Mumbai, along with another service connecting Varanasi with Delhi. The increased frequency is expected to provide passengers with greater flexibility, particularly those travelling for business, employment and other regular purposes.

Akasa Air is also adding a new daily service between Varanasi and Bengaluru. The direct connection is expected to benefit passengers travelling between Kashi and the technology hub, particularly as direct connectivity to several southern destinations has remained limited.

Meanwhile, IndiGo will introduce a new service connecting Varanasi with Vijayawada, providing another direct air link between Kashi and southern India.

With these additions, Varanasi Airport is expected to handle 54 daily flight movements, compared with the current 44, comprising 22 arrivals and 22 departures.

Flight Operations Had Declined Earlier

At the beginning of the year, Varanasi Airport reportedly handled around 84 flight movements a day, with approximately 12,000 passengers travelling through the airport daily. However, flight operations subsequently declined, reportedly amid higher aviation fuel costs, bringing the number down to around 44 daily movements.

Airport officials said the new services will provide greater convenience to passengers and are expected to support tourism in Varanasi. The increase in connectivity is particularly significant during Sawan, when large numbers of devotees visit Kashi for pilgrimage.

Officials have also indicated that additional flight services could be introduced from Varanasi in the coming days, further strengthening the city’s air connectivity and supporting the growing demand for pilgrimage and tourism travel.
