Why is Nagachandreshwar Temple Open Only Once a Year?
This is the only rare and unique temple in India, where the deity of Lord Shiva, Parvati Devi and Lord Ganesha are seated in multi-hooded serpent Takshaka. This is one of the divine sights, where Lord Shiva is seated on the serpent. Usually in general Lord Vishnu is seen seated on the serpent. This Vigraha is brought from Nepal.
According to the traditional belief, Nag Takshaka gives darshan to his devotees only on Nag Panchami. On other days, he likes to be in solitude, undisturbed by the devotees.
Those who have the darshan of Lord Nagachandreshwar on this day, the Lord helps remove sarpa dosha, kala sarpa dosha and other snake related problems. Also blesses them abundantly with peace, prosperity, good health, and spiritual upliftment.
Spiritual Significance
Takshaka Nag performed severe tapas in the dense forest of Mahakal. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Shiva blessed him and agreed to reside with him in this sacred form in Mahakal Van.
