Kodanda Rama Temple, Hampi

Dedicated to Lord Rama, holding a bow, the temple also enshrines deities of Sita Devi and Lakshmana, radiating divine grace and spiritual tranquillity.

The deities are tall and majestic, with Lord Sri Rama placed at the center, Lord Lakshmana on his right, and Sita Devi on his left. Lord Rama and Lord Lakshmana hold bows in their left hands and arrows in their right hands. Adishesha, the multi-headed serpent is providing shelter to Lord Sri Rama.

Lord Sri Rama is holding the bow known as Kodanda; hence, the Lord is called Kodandarama.

In most parts of India, Lord Rama is commonly seen with His ardent devotee Hanuman, but here the Vanara king Sugriva is seen worshipping Lord Rama.

The temple commemorates the divine friendship between Lord Rama and Sugriva and symbolizes righteousness, loyalty, and dharma. Lord Rama is worshipped here in his “Kodanda” form, holding his celestial bow.

The temple stands gracefully on the banks of the Tungabhadra River amidst the rocky landscapes of Hampi, adding to its spiritual charm.
