The Bhojshala complex is one of India’s most sensitive and debated religious heritage sites. Hindus consider Bhojshala to be an ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, while Muslims identify the site as the Kamal Maula Mosque. The dispute over the religious character of the monument has continued for decades and has resulted in multiple legal proceedings, ASI surveys, and administrative regulations regarding worship rights.
According to the ASI report presented before the High Court, several pillars, sculptures, inscriptions, and architectural patterns inside the structure displayed strong features of traditional temple architecture. Considering these findings, the court granted Hindus the right to worship at Bhojshala under controlled conditions while directing authorities to maintain peace and communal harmony.
The Bhojshala verdict is expected to become a major milestone in India’s heritage and temple-related legal history. Security has been tightened around the Dhar monument following the judgment.
The case has drawn nationwide attention from devotees, historians, archaeologists, and legal experts, making the Bhojshala dispute one of the most talked-about religious and archaeological matters in Madhya Pradesh and across India.
