Key Rituals of Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam
One of the most significant highlights is the Mutyala Talambralu ceremony. In this unique ritual, a mixture of rice and pearls is gently poured over the Deities of Rama and Sita. This act symbolizes prosperity, abundance, and a showering of blessings upon devotees. The ritual also reflects the joy and playfulness associated with divine weddings in Hindu tradition.

The Kanya Danam ritual marks the formal offering of Sita Devi’s hand in marriage to Lord Rama, representing purity and sacred commitment. This is followed by the highly auspicious Mangala Sutra Dharana, where Lord Rama ties the sacred thread around Sita Devi’s neck, signifying the eternal bond of marriage. The ceremony then proceeds to Saptapadi, where the divine couple takes seven symbolic steps together, each step representing vows of companionship, trust, and mutual respect.

However, this act led to his imprisonment in the Golconda Fort, where he endured severe hardships. During his time in captivity, he composed soulful devotional songs in praise of Lord Rama, which later became timeless classics in Carnatic music. Lord Rama and Lakshmana appeared in disguise before the ruler and repaid the entire amount, leading to Gopanna’s release. From then on, he became renowned as Bhakta Ramadasu, a symbol of unwavering faith and devotion.
As a remembrance of this event and as an expression of his devotion to Lord Sri Rama, Abul Hasan Qutb Shah began sending Muthyala Talambralu to Bhadrachalam. This act was performed as an atonement for the suffering he had caused to the devotees of Lord Rama, and also as a gesture of gratitude for being blessed with the darshan of Lord Sri Rama.
Talambralu is usually prepared using rice and turmeric. However, Muthyala Talambralu is a mixture pearls with rice and turmeric. After his rule, this was later continued by the Nawabs of Hyderabad.

After the end of Mughal rule and India gaining independence, the tradition was carried forward by the State Government. Even today, the current Chief Minister of Telangana offers silk clothes and Muthyala Talambralu on the occasion of Sita Rama Kalyanam as a symbolic gesture of devotion to Lord Sri Rama. Muthyala Talambralu is available in the temple throughout the year.
