According to temple authorities and the Mathura district administration, the heavy-duty sliding steel railing system will help regulate the movement of devotees during darshan by ensuring controlled entry and exit. Due to the temple’s unique curtain-style darshan tradition and limited space near the sanctum, sudden crowd surges have often posed safety challenges.
Sliding Steel Railing to Regulate Darshan Entry and Exit
The railing, made of high-grade steel and weighing nearly 21 tonnes, is designed to be durable, movable, and suitable for managing large crowds efficiently. Officials have clarified that the installation will not interfere with the temple’s age-old rituals or the spiritual experience of devotees.
Railing Work Started in January 2026, Completion Expected by February
The Banke Bihari Temple railing work started in January 2026, with installation beginning from Gate Number 3 and the rear courtyard. The project is being implemented under the supervision of the temple trust and district administration and is expected to be completed by February 2026.

Along with the new railing, authorities have introduced separate entry and exit routes, timed darshan during peak days, enhanced barricading, CCTV surveillance, deployment of police and volunteers, and regular public announcements.
