Dehradun, September 17, 2025 — The Yamunotri Dham has reopened for pilgrim darshan, but access remains fraught with challenges due to ongoing damage from recent landslides and flooding. Authorities partially opened the Yamunotri National Highway on the evening of September 15, allowing limited movement for the continuation of the Char Dham Yatra.
After weeks of disruption, the highway—previously blocked at Phool Chatti—has been partially repaired, enabling buses to reach up to Kharadi. From there, a shuttle service has been arranged to ferry pilgrims and locals up to Janki Chatti.
However, the road remains completely closed near Krishna Chatti, where a major portion was washed away. As a result, pilgrims must now trek an additional 3 kilometers—on top of the regular 5-kilometer route—to reach the Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Pony and doli (palanquin) services are available from Phool Chatti to assist those unable to make the difficult journey on foot.
The highway had suffered extensive damage after a series of cloudbursts between Barkot and Janki Chatti, which led to massive landslides and flooding. Heavy rainfall caused the Yamuna River to swell above danger levels, engulfing several bridges and sweeping away entire road sections. One of the worst-hit areas was Syana Chatti, a popular tourist halt, where all hotels were destroyed after remaining submerged under water for over two weeks.
Despite the partial reopening, officials warn that the route is still dangerous and travelers are advised to proceed with caution. Restoration work continues across multiple points, with weather conditions remaining unpredictable.
