Madurai Meenakshi Temple Maha Kumbabishekam Today: Grand Consecration Held

Madurai, September 17, 2026: The historic Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Maha Kumbabishekam is being held today, September 17, marking the grand consecration of the renowned Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple after a gap of 17 years. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the major religious event, with devotees arriving in large numbers to witness the ceremonies.

The final phase of preparations included a series of Yagasala poojas conducted by priests. On Wednesday, kumbabishekam was performed for 414 parivara murthis, including Dakshinamurthy, Durga, Lakshmi, Bhadrakali and the 63 Nayanmars. The rituals continued throughout the day as preparations intensified for the main ceremony.

Meenakshi Temple Maha Kumbabishekam schedule includes the consecration of the golden vimanas and rajagopurams at 7.40 am, followed by the Meenakshi Amman sanctum at 7.55 am and the Sundareswarar sanctum at 8.10 am.

Madurai district administration has made extensive arrangements to manage the expected crowds. Special transport facilities, parking arrangements, medical assistance, security measures and other public amenities have been put in place for devotees. Dedicated helplines have also been provided to assist visitors during the event.

The Meenakshi Amman Temple Kumbabishekam 2026 is among the major religious events being held in Tamil Nadu this year. The centuries-old temple has drawn devotees from Madurai and various parts of Tamil Nadu for the significant consecration ceremony.
