Also, his fellow companions were also left behind.

Nandi, the divine vahana of Lord Shiva, was left at Pahalgam, Chnadrakala was left at Chandanwadi, Nagabharana at Shesh Nag, and the pancha butas were left at Panchtarni. Even his own son, Lord Ganesha, was not allowed to hear; he was left at Mahaguna. All these places can be found en route to the Amarnath cave.

According to the belief, the devotees who worship Lord Trisandhyeshwar along with Goddess Mahamaya will be blessed with all the pleasures of the world and get a place in Shiva Loka.

When he reached home and opened the bag, to everybody’s surprise, it turned into a bag of gold. The next day, he went to the same spot where he received the bag. He did not find any sage and informed everyone about this. All the villagers built a small temple in that very spot, and the cave came to be known as the Amarnath cave.

Here, goddess Mahamaya is worshiped in the form of stalagmite ice. Lord Shiva is worshiped as Trisandhyasvar in the form of ice, as well as Lord Ganesha.

Amarnath Yatra is the most significant pilgrimage undertaken by every devotee of Lord Shiva and Parvati Devi. It usually falls in the Shravana Maas (July-August).

However, during the winter seasons, due to heavy snowfall, the roads are blocked, and the entire region is inaccessible.

By Railway: Jammu Tawi is the nearest railway station to reach Pahalgam. It is the place where the trek starts. This is connected to all major cities like Lucknow, Hyderabad, Allahabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and more.

By Road: There are frequent Jammu and Kashmir government buses (JKSRTC) that operate from Jammu and Srinagar to Pahalgam and Baital.

By Trek: Pilgrims can take 2 trek routes from Pahalgam and Baltal. From Pahalgam, it is a 36 km long trek route. But from Baltal, it is just a 14 km steeper short trek.

Build your Body Stamina: Preparation for the yatra should begin at least one month before. Daily start walking at least 4-5 km to build stamina.

Pack Smartly: To withstand the colder weather, carry woollens, a durable raincoat, sturdy trekking footwear, drinking water, and dry fruits or nuts to stay warm and energized.

Give time for acclimatisation: Arrive one day before in Srinagar, so that your body gets adjusted to the high-altitude weather and reduces altitude sickness.

Consider helicopter options: If you are not fit enough for the trek, then you can opt for helicopter services. Their services are available from Baltal or Pahalgam to Panchtarni. Book in advance for easy and faster access.
