The historic Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri Hill in Vijayawada is gearing up for a three-day Maha Kumbhabhishekam ceremony from March 6 to March 8, 2026. The sacred consecration ritual, carried out once every 12 years according to Agama Shastra, is expected to attract lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad.
Event Highlights & Rituals
- March 6: Traditional rituals like Ganapati Puja, Punyaha Vachanam and Agni Pratishtapana mark the start of the ceremonies.
- March 7: Rituals such as Ashtottara Kalasha Sthapana and homams continue the spiritual proceedings.
- March 8 (Main Day):
- Kumbhabhishekam begins at 9:34 AM in Aries Lagna, when sanctified waters will be poured over the temple’s vimana (tower).
- Anugraha Bhashanam (blessings) will be delivered by Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.
Preparations & Arrangements
- Temple authorities, district officials, and police have been conducting inspections to ensure smooth crowd management and safety.
- Officials confirmed that elaborate planning has gone into logistics, security, traffic, sanitation, and provision of services for mass participation during the three days.
Dignitaries and Participation
- Prominent leaders including Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, NTR District Collector G Lakshmisha, and senior police officials have been actively involved in overseeing the event planning.
- Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan are expected to participate in the main Kumbhabhishekam ceremony on March 8.
