Trichy Region, Tamil Nadu: The sacred tradition of Vishnu Deepam will be celebrated tomorrow (04/12/2025) on Karthigai Pournami, the full-moon day of the Tamil month Karthigai. Vishnu Deepam is observed annually at many of the biggest and most revered Vishnu temples in India, including the ancient temples of Tirupati, Kanchipuram, Mannargudi, Melkote, and several major Divya Desams across Tamil Nadu and South India.
Besides Tirupati, where the event is celebrated as Karthika Deepotsavam, Vishnu Deepam is observed in other major Vishnu temples (Divya Desams) across South India, including Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple (Srirangam) and Sri Govindarajaswamy Temple (Tirupati).
Temple authorities across major Vishnu temples—including Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple (Trichy), Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), Sri Parthasarathy Temple (Chennai), Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple (Kanchipuram), and Sri Oppiliappan Temple (Kumbakonam)—have confirmed that the day will begin with early morning rituals such as Suprabatham, Visesha Alankaram, and Pournami pujas. Devotional chanting, Vedic recitations, and special homams will continue throughout the day, invoking divine blessings on the auspicious occasion of Karthigai Pournami.
The highlight of the celebrations will be the stunning Deepam lighting ceremony, where thousands of oil lamps illuminate prakarams, mandapams, and inner corridors. The Vishnu Deepam is scheduled to be lit shortly after sunset, once the full moon rises in its radiant brightness.
Extensive preparations—including crowd-control barricades, additional lighting, drinking water points, first-aid counters, and volunteer deployment—have been made to manage the huge influx of devotees. Traffic diversions, extended bus services, and special parking zones have also been arranged in temple towns.
