Among these, four statutory sub-committees have been established to oversee finance, rituals, the Ratna Bhandar (temple treasury), and appeals, ensuring institutionalized oversight. Significantly, a newly formed security sub-committee—headed by former CAG Girish Chandra Murmu—marks a historic focus on temple safety.
A nine-member supervisory committee, led by the Puri District Collector, has been formed to oversee the implementation of the Dhadi Darshan initiative. The group will liaise with sevayats, Nijogs, and other stakeholders, ensuring that entry lanes, barricades, and ramps cause no disruption to rituals.
Temple Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee confirmed that the Darshan system will be implemented on a trial basis, with learnings integrated into a formal Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) before full deployment.
Why This Holds Significance
- Improved Devotee Experience: Introducing a structured “Dhadi Darshan” system promises smoother, more dignified access to Lord Jagannath’s darshan, especially for elderly and differently-abled visitors.
- Security Gets Spotlight: Under the leadership of a seasoned administrator, the first-ever security sub-committee underscores a renewed emphasis on temple safety and operational resilience.
- Blending Tradition with Modernity: AC-fitted interiors and an organized queue system ensure comfort without diluting centuries-old rituals.
- Governance Revamp: The creation of 14 focused sub-committees reflects a modern, transparent administrative framework, integrating diverse functions under clearly demarcated leadership.
As the temple navigates growing footfalls, these initiatives underscore a thoughtful balance between heritage preservation and modernization—reinforcing Puri Jagannath Temple’s status as a sanctuary of devotion and safety.
