Cleanliness Drive at Shri Badrinath Temple
The campaign began with sweeping and garbage collection in the Shri Badrinath Dham Temple Complex, one of the most important shrines of the Char Dham Yatra. Similar activities were also carried out at the Adi Kedareshwar Temple and the holy Tapt Kund, where pilgrims traditionally take a sacred bath before darshan.
To ensure public health and hygiene, insecticides were sprayed across the temple premises and adjoining areas. This preventive step aims to protect visitors from vector-borne diseases, especially as the number of pilgrims rises during Navratri.
Swachh Bharat Mission in Badrinath
Officials from the Nagar Panchayat Badrinath emphasized that the cleanliness campaign reflects the true spirit of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, encouraging both locals and pilgrims to maintain hygiene at one of India’s most revered temples. “Badrinath is not just a pilgrimage center but also a global spiritual landmark.
Keeping it clean enhances both its sanctity and the experience of devotees,” said an official during the event.
Pilgrims and Volunteers Join Hands
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from local civic workers, volunteers, and devotees, highlighting the importance of community-driven cleanliness efforts in preserving cultural and spiritual heritage. Pilgrims appreciated the campaign, noting that a clean environment enhances the spiritual energy of the shrine while protecting the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
Continuing the Cleanliness Fortnight
The Cleanliness is Service Fortnight 2025 will continue in Badrinath over the coming days, covering marketplaces, residential areas, and public spaces. Authorities urged devotees and residents to support the initiative by avoiding littering, reducing plastic use, and adopting eco-friendly practices during their pilgrimage.
With Navratri festivities underway, this campaign sets the tone for a cleaner, greener, and spiritually uplifting pilgrimage season at Badrinath Dham, reaffirming the temple’s place as a symbol of devotion, discipline, and cultural pride.
