Dadhichi Kunda

Dadhichi Kunda, a sacred kunda, is located in the city of Misrikh, Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, Bharat. It stands as a testament to steadfast dedication and selflessness. It is the divine spot where Sage Dadhichi made the supreme sacrifice for the welfare of all living beings.

Commonly referred to as Misrikh Tirtha, it is a sacred pilgrimage site spread across an area of 2 acres and surrounded by charming ghats.

Nestled beside the Dadhichi Kunda is a revered temple dedicated to Maharishi Dadhichi. The serene atmosphere and divinity of the place attract a large number of spiritual seekers to this place.

The sacred water from all the pilgrimage sites of the world gets mixed (Misrit) in this Kunda. Hence, this kunda is called Misrikh. The pilgrims who cannot visit any other pilgrimage sites can visit this place and take a holy dip and gain all the merits of visiting other sacred places.

This place reflects the selfless sacrifice of Maharishi Dadhichi, who gave up his life for the overall well-being of humankind and saved the Devas from the Asuras.

Maharishi Dadhichi was a great devotee of Lord Shiva who is remembered for his enduring devotion and strong spiritual strength. Also referred to as Dadhyancha or Dadhyanga, he is considered the greatest of the great sages. He can be set as an example for the world that no sacrifice is great when compared to the benefit of all.

His bones are used as a symbol in the Param Vir Chakra, the highest military award, given to those who display valor on the battlefield.

According to history, there was a demon named Vritra, who used to trouble 88,000 sages and disturb their penance. All the sages went to Lord Indra and complained about Vritra. All together, they went to Lord Narayana to seek a solution.

Then Lord Narayana responded that the demon Vritra can be killed only using the weapon Vajra, which is made from the bones of Maharishi Dadhichi.

When they approached Maharishi Dadhichi regarding this, he happily agreed to give up his bones and donated his bones to the Devatas so that they could make Vajrayudha to slay the demon Vritra.

Monday to Sunday: 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM

October to March is the best time to visit Dadhichi Kunda. The weather is very pleasant during this time and perfect for exploring nearby places. Also, it can be visited during the festival seasons.

Maha Shivaratri: This festival is celebrated with great fervor; Lord Mahadev is worshiped. Lakhs of devotees visit Dadhichi Kunda and take a holy dip in the sacred water.

Kartika Purnima: This auspicious day falls on Purnima day in the Kartika Maasa. Taking a punya snana on this day is considered highly rewarding.

Makara Shankranti, Navaratri, and Diwali: These are the major festivals celebrated with great devotion. The atmosphere is filled with a divine aura, elevating the person to a higher spiritual realm.

Chakra Tirtha: It is one of the major attractions in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Devotees take a holy dip in this sacred spot to purify the mind, body, and soul.

Dashashwamedha Ghat: It is the sacred site in Naimisharanya where Lord Sri Rama performed Ashwamedha Yajna. Besides the ghat, there is a temple dedicated to Lord Sri Rama.
