The Jagannath Ratha Yatra, held on 16 July 2026 in Jagannath Puri Dham, drew an estimated 4 to 5 million pilgrims from around the world to witness Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra’s sacred journey to the Gundicha Temple aboard the grand chariots Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, and Darpadalana. Despite heavy rains, the Odisha Government and temple administration ensured a smooth and secure festival through AI-enabled surveillance, extensive police deployment, medical camps, sanitation services, along with thousands of volunteers. Over 150 organizations provided free food and drinking water, while Mahaprasad Khaja recorded an estimated Rs.100 crore in sales. Tirtha Yatra further contributed by organizing Annadana Seva for sadhus and mahatmas from Vrindavan, Mathura, Mayapur, and Gauda Desh. Tirtha Yatra also arranges safe pilgrimage tours for senior citizens, enabling them to participate in one of Sanatana Dharma’s most sacred festivals with devotion and comfort.
It is said that “Rathe tu Vamanam drustva punarjanmam na vidyate” Meaning “One who beholds the divine chariot of Lord Vishnu is freed from the cycle of rebirth”. So 4 to 5 million of Pilgrims gathered from all over the world at Jagannath puri kshetra to participate and witness the most Sacred, biggest, celebrated and awaited annual event in the world “the Jagannatha Ratha yatra”, also known as “festival of chariots” on 16 July 2026, only to be a part and witness Lord Jagannath, Lord Baldev and Goddess Subhadra travel to Gundicha Temple from Jagannath temple approximately 3kms in a beautiful handcrafted wooden grand chariot namely – Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, Darpadalana along with wooden horses and other wooden carvings on the chariot.
As there were multiple incidents last year so the Government, Temple authorities, medical staff, Security staff, Sanitation workers and the Volunteers and other non-governmental organizations and trusts extended their support throughout the duration of Ratha Yatra and made the Jagannath Ratha Yatra smoother and more successful. Lights and CCTV – over 50 high mast lights and adequate CCTV cameras were installed for smooth functioning of the yatra. And for security and evacuation – over 10 to 12 thousand police person were deployed across puri for smooth yatra experience and security, and approximately 28 evacuation points were made as a precautionary measure.
Due to heavy rainfall during Puri Ratha yatra during major rituals, and with the increase in devotees and continuous rain flooded streets which made the event uneasy, but nearly 1,600 sanitation workers working in shifts restoring nearly 160 kilometres of roads for better transportation. And due to heavy rainfall, many people were struck by illness and dehydration, so nearly 82 medical camps, fifteen temporary hospitals and hundreds of doctors, nurses and volunteers aided for help.
To Help with food and drinking water over 150 organizations and nearly 4500 to 5000 volunteers ensured that no pilgrim went hungry, while hundreds of volunteers distributed drinking water across the festival route.
Even though such a massive crowd of 40 to 50 lakh people came to Jagannath puri to be a part of this historic event, the whole crowd of people were well received in puri as the government and temple management were well prepared for the crowd with “Advanced AI Drons and CCTV cameras” the crowd which lasted from July 15 (Gundicha Marjan) till July 28 (Niladri Bijay). In just 10 days the lords Mahaprasad “Khaja” witnessed a record-breaking demand during the Ratha yatra and estimated sales of Rs.100 Crores worth Khaja were sold.
Tirtha Yatra organized a special Annadana Seva (free food offering) for sadhus and mahatmas from the sacred regions of Vrindavan, Mathura, Mayapur, and Gauda Desh during the annual Jagannath Puri Ratha Yatra in the holy Dham Kshetra.
In addition to this spiritual service, Tirtha Yatra also arranged dedicated pilgrimage tours for senior citizens, enabling them to safely participate in the grand Ratha Yatra and experience the rare opportunity of pulling the sacred chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.
