Get ready for a night of spiritual radiance and high-tech wonder — where tradition meets innovation, and every flicker underscores a promise to Mother Earth.
A Divine Glow Across the Ghats of Kashi
Every year, Dev Deepavali — the “Festival of Lights of the Gods” — falls on the full moon day of Kartika. The festival commemorates when gods are said to descend to the Ganges for a sacred dip. For Dev Deepavali 2025, Varanasi will blaze with 10 lakh (1 million) traditional oil lamps, transforming ghats and alleys into rivers of golden flame. But there’s a twist: to protect the environment, this year’s festivities will be pollution-free, with laser shows and eco-friendly innovations replacing heavy firecrackers and smoke.

Green and Grand: A Pollution-Free Celebration
Under the guidance of the Uttar Pradesh government, this year’s Dev Deepavali will emphasize environmental consciousness. The use of eco-friendly diyas, biodegradable decorations, and green fireworks will ensure that the sacred river and its surroundings remain pollution-free.
In addition, a spectacular laser and drone show will light up the night sky, narrating the story of Kashi’s divine heritage and Lord Shiva’s eternal presence in the holy city.
Authorities expect over 15 lakh devotees and tourists from India and abroad to witness the celestial event. The Varanasi Development Authority and Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department have enhanced security, transport, and crowd management to ensure a seamless experience.
Hotels, local artisans, and boat operators are also preparing for the surge, as Dev Deepavali continues to boost spiritual tourism and global recognition for Kashi as India’s “City of Light.”
