Theerthodbhava: A Divine Miracle
The Theerthodbhava is the most awaited moment of Tula Sankramana. At the precise celestial time when the Sun enters Libra, water mysteriously bubbles from the sacred Kundike, symbolizing the birth of the river revered as Goddess Cauvery. In 2025, this phenomenon occurred at 4:15 a.m., drawing devotees from across Karnataka and neighboring states.
Pilgrims took a holy dip in the larger tank outside the Kundike, believing the sacred water washes away sins and brings blessings. Many collected bottles of theertha to share with family and friends who could not attend.
Significance of Tula Sankramana
The festival holds immense spiritual and cultural importance, especially for the Kodava community. It honors River Cauvery, considered the lifeline of South India. Rituals like Kanni Puje, where women worship a cucumber or coconut wrapped in silk as a symbolic goddess, add to the sanctity of the occasion. The festival reflects gratitude for nature’s life-giving power and promotes spiritual purification.
Talakaveri: The Sacred Origin
Nestled in the Brahmagiri Hills, Talakaveri is a revered pilgrimage site featuring a temple dedicated to Goddess Kaveramma and shrines for other deities like Lord Agastheeshwara. The site attracts thousands of devotees during Tula Sankramana, boosting tourism and the local economy in Kodagu.
Authorities ensured smooth arrangements for the influx of pilgrims, reinforcing Talakaveri’s status as a major spiritual destination.
