Tirupati, June 17, 2025 — In a move to enhance the safety and management of pilgrim traffic, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has implemented strict security regulations for devotees trekking to Tirumala via the Alipiri footpath. These new guidelines are now in effect and aim to streamline the flow of pilgrims while ensuring their safety amid rising crowd numbers and growing concerns around security.
As per the new rules, devotees will be allowed to begin their ascent from Alipiri only between 5:00 am and 2:00 pm. After 2:00 pm, only regulated groups of 70 to 100 pilgrims will be permitted to proceed, and that too under close security monitoring. This grouping system is intended to control foot traffic and ensure safer passage during the latter part of the day when natural light diminishes and visibility becomes challenging.
Importantly, children below the age of 12 will not be allowed to use the footpath route after 2:00 pm, a precautionary measure introduced to prevent risks associated with navigating the ghat route during late hours. The decision follows multiple reports in the past of fatigue-related distress among children and elderly devotees during evening treks.
The Alipiri walkway will officially close at 9:30 pm every night, and no devotees will be allowed to start the climb after this time. TTD officials have urged pilgrims to strictly adhere to the timings and guidelines for their own safety. Devotees who wish to trek to Tirumala are encouraged to plan their journey in the early hours of the day and ensure they start well before the 2:00 pm cutoff.
TTD has also stepped up surveillance along the Alipiri route by deploying additional security personnel and monitoring staff, especially at key checkpoints. CCTV cameras have been installed at regular intervals along the pathway, and continuous monitoring is being carried out from the central control room.
“These steps are part of TTD’s commitment to ensuring a safe and spiritually uplifting experience for every devotee visiting Lord Venkateswara’s abode,” said a senior TTD official. “We request pilgrims to cooperate with our staff and follow the guidelines diligently.”
With peak pilgrimage season underway, TTD’s revised policy reflects its proactive approach in balancing tradition, safety, and crowd management in one of the world’s most visited holy sites.
