This year’s festivities will begin with the flag hoisting ceremony on November 24, marking the commencement of the 10-day spiritual celebration. The schedule includes key rituals such as Rishabhavahanam on November 28, Silver Ratham on November 29, and Maha Ratham on November 30, drawing thousands of devotees from across India and abroad.
The highlight of the festival, the Bharani Deepam and Maha Deepam, will be held on December 3. The Bharani Deepam will be lit in the early hours of the morning (around 4 AM) inside the sanctum, followed by the Maha Deepam at 6 PM, when a massive lamp is ignited atop the sacred Annamalai Hill. The glowing flame, visible for miles, represents the eternal presence of Lord Shiva and attracts lakhs of pilgrims who gather to witness this divine spectacle.
Temple authorities and the Tiruvannamalai District Administration have made elaborate arrangements for crowd management, safety, and accommodation to ensure a smooth and spiritually uplifting experience for devotees.
The Karthigai Deepam Festival not only embodies deep religious significance but also showcases the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. Devotees believe that witnessing the Maha Deepam brings immense blessings, prosperity, and liberation from sins.
As chants of “Annamalaiyarukku Arohara” echo through the temple town, Tiruvannamalai prepares to be illuminated in divine radiance, celebrating faith, devotion, and the eternal light of Lord Shiva.
