The remote shrine near Niti Ghat, known for the Baba Gopinath Mahadev cave and stunning Himalayan views, attracts devotees and adventure travellers, particularly during spring and summer. However, its rugged terrain, limited connectivity, and lack of facilities have hindered wider tourism growth.
Officials said the project will focus on widening access roads, reinforcing footpaths, and building safety structures along the route to the Timarsen Mahadev site. Plans also include landscaping, new sanitation facilities, and clear directional signage to enhance visitor comfort and safety.
A senior Tourism Department official said the work is being coordinated with local gram panchayats and district authorities to ensure that development respects the fragile mountain ecosystem. According to the official, the plan will benefit visitors and help foster sustainable tourism.
A portion of the funds will be used to maintain the photogenic Mahadev Gufa area, known for its frozen waterfalls and scenic Himalayan backdrop, making it a popular spot for photographers and nature lovers.
Local residents have welcomed the improvements, noting that better infrastructure will support small businesses and homestays, while preserving the region’s cultural heritage.
Tourism experts say that improved access and amenities could transform Timarsen Mahadev into a key pilgrimage and eco-tourism destination, generating jobs for youth from nearby villages and boosting the local economy.
