Varanasi: A new initiative is underway to enhance the spiritual and cultural experience of devotees and tourists in Varanasi. Authorities have proposed the construction of a dedicated Ganga Ghat pathway connecting the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham with the iconic Dashashwamedh Ghat.
The project, estimated at a cost of ₹46 crore, is designed to provide seamless and convenient access to the ghats. According to officials, the pathway will be equipped with safety railings on both sides, ensuring a secure passage for pilgrims and visitors. In addition, seating areas will be developed along the route to allow people to rest and enjoy the serene beauty of the Ganga.
The proposed pathway is expected to significantly ease crowd movement, especially during festivals, religious ceremonies, and peak tourist seasons. It will also create a more organized flow between the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, one of the most revered temples in the country, and Dashashwamedh Ghat, famous for its daily Ganga Aarti that draws thousands of devotees and tourists.
City planners believe that the project will not only improve accessibility but also add to the aesthetic appeal of the riverfront, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the grandeur of the Ganga in a more immersive and comfortable way.
Once completed, the pathway is likely to become an important addition to Varanasi’s infrastructure, further strengthening its identity as a spiritual and cultural capital of India.
