Radha Ashtami is the most auspicious festival celebrated by Vaishnavites, observed as the appearance day of Srimati Radha Rani. This auspicious day falls on Ashtami tithi, Shukla Paksha in the lunar month of Bhadrapada.
Radha Ashtami, also known as Radha Janmashtami or Radha Jayanti, is celebrated with great zeal, purity, devotion, and faith across North India, particularly in Vrindavana, Mathura, and Barsana. It falls fifteen days after Krishna Janmashtami.
Radha Rani is an embodiment of pure love and devotion. Also known as Radhika, Vrindavaneshwari, is an eternal consort of Lord Sri Krishna. To please Lord Sri Krishna, one needs to please Radha Rani. Only with the grace of Radha Rani can one get the blessings of Lord Sri Krishna.

Radha Rani is believed to have appeared during Madhyahna Kala, hence this time is considered most spiritually potent.
Significance of Observing Radha Ashtami Vrata
By observing the Radha Ashtami Vrata, one can please Sri Radha Rani, thereby removing all obstacles on the path to Krishna Bhakti.
Since Radha Rani is the internal potency of Lord Sri Krishna, she is worshipped with great reverence. It is believed that mercy from Lord Sri Krishna can be obtained only after offering prayers to Srimati Radha Rani.
How Radha Ashtami Vrata Can Be Performed
Steps to Perform Radha Ashtami Vrata
Morning Rituals:
Wake up early in the morning, take a bath to purify yourself, and wear clean, neat clothes.
Clean Your House:
Before installing the Deities, thoroughly clean your house and decorate it with flowers and other decorative items to welcome Srimati Radha Rani and Lord Sri Krishna.
Install the Deities:
Place the Deities of Radha and Krishna on an altar or a designated place for worship.
Abhishekam:
Perform Panchamrit Abhishekam (ritual bathing with five sacred ingredients) for the Deities.
Decoration:
Dress the Deities of Srimati Radha Rani and Lord Sri Krishna in grand, beautiful yellow or blue attire, adorned with jewelry. Blue (Neelambhari) is considered Radha Rani’s favorite color.
Offerings:
Offer fresh, fragrant flowers to Srimati Radha Rani and Lord Sri Krishna. You may also offer a variety of sweets, kheer (rice pudding), and fruits.
To receive maximum spiritual benefit, one can offer Radha Rani’s favorite items such as roses, lotus flowers, and sweets like Kalakand, Malpua, and Chandrakala.
Prayers:
To invoke a spiritual atmosphere at home, chant the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra 108 times and recite Radha Ashtakam. Reading the Radha Ashtami Katha is also highly recommended to receive divine grace.
Aarti:
In the evening, perform aarti for the Deities while singing devotional and vibrant bhajans and kirtans in praise of the Goddess.
Fasting:
Devotees may observe a Nirjala Vrata (fast without water) or Ekabhukta Vrata (single meal fast).
Breaking the Fast:
You may break the fast either in the evening on the same day or the next morning. Traditionally, the fast is broken by feeding married women or Brahmins.

Shriji Temple, also known as Radha Rani Temple, is located on Bhanugarh Hill, Barsana, Uttar Pradesh. This temple, built by Vajranabha, hosts midnight darshan where Radha’s lotus feet are unveiled—an event seen only on this day.
Devotees chant “Radhe Radhe”, light diyas, and offer flower chaddars.
Evening festivities include Rasa Leela dance dramas, Bhajans, and community feasting.
