The Maharashtra government has approved a massive ₹25,055 crore development plan for the upcoming Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027, aiming to transform the pilgrimage city into a world-class spiritual and cultural destination. The Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings on earth, attracts millions of devotees and tourists from across the globe, making infrastructure development a top priority.
Highlights of the ₹25,055 Crore Development Plan:
- Major upgrades in roads, bridges, and public transport
- Improved sanitation, water supply, and waste management
- Riverfront beautification and digital connectivity initiatives
- Special focus on facilities around the sacred Godavari River, the site of the holy dip during Kumbh Mela 2027

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a ₹25,055 crore investment to create lasting infrastructure for Nashik ahead of the 2027 Kumbh Mela. Highlighting it as a global spiritual festival, he said the project will boost culture, heritage, and tourism as the city prepares to host millions of devotees once again.
The Nashik Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, last took place in 2015 and witnessed a massive turnout of devotees.
