The Vishalakshi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Vishalakshi – a revered Shakti Peeth located near the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple – attracts thousands of pilgrims daily. However, narrow lanes and congested structures around the temple have long posed challenges for devotees. The corridor project aims to create a direct, spacious, and seamless path for visitors, ensuring a more organized and spiritually uplifting environment.
Officials confirmed that the temple trust has initiated negotiations with property owners to acquire the identified buildings. While some residential houses are part of the acquisition plan, the presence of over two dozen temples has drawn significant attention. Authorities have assured that all temples falling within the project zone will be preserved and respectfully integrated into the corridor design, maintaining their historical and religious significance.
Speaking about the project, trust representatives emphasized that the corridor will not only decongest the area but also enhance facilities for pilgrims. Wider pathways, improved lighting, seating arrangements, and proper management of footfall are expected to transform the temple experience in Varanasi.

The Maa Vishalakshi Corridor is being seen as a continuation of the successful Kashi Vishwanath Corridor initiative, which greatly improved access to the Vishwanath temple and the Ganga ghat. Devotees and local residents believe the new corridor will further strengthen Varanasi’s identity as a global spiritual hub.
The acquisition process is expected to begin soon, with compensation and rehabilitation measures under discussion. Once completed, the project will not only provide devotees with greater convenience but also contribute to the city’s cultural preservation and tourism growth.
The Maa Vishalakshi Corridor, combining tradition with modern planning, is set to become a milestone in Varanasi’s spiritual and architectural landscape, further enriching the city’s timeless charm.
