The festival traditionally begins on Palguna Suddha Panchami to Pournami, with ceremonies scheduled according to precise panchanga (Hindu almanac) calculations.
The auspicious Dwajarohanam (flag hoisting) ceremony marks the formal commencement of Brahmotsavam.
- At Upper Ahobilam, it will be held on February 22, 2026, between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, followed at night by Bheri Pooja and Simha Vahanam.
- At Lower Ahobilam, the ceremony will take place on February 23, 2026, at 5:30 AM, with Bheri Pooja and Simha Vahanam in the evening.
The term Brahmotsavam translates to “the grand festival performed by Lord Brahma,” signifying divine grace and universal harmony. Devotees believe that during these sacred days, Lord Narasimha showers special blessings and protection upon his followers. The festival finds mention in ancient scriptures such as the Brahmanda Purana and the Ahobila Kshetra Mahatmyam.
The period from 28 February 2026 to 04 March 2026 is expected to witness the highest turnout, as several key Brahmotsavam events are scheduled during these days. Pilgrims planning to visit Ahobilam at this time should make prior arrangements for darshan, lodging, and transportation to avoid inconvenience.
Safety and Arrangements
In preparation for the 2026 celebrations, authorities have conducted emergency response drills involving police, fire services, medical teams, and temple staff to ensure smooth crowd management and devotee safety.
Pilgrims are advised to plan their travel well in advance, particularly for major events like Rathotsavam and Garuda Seva. Observing temple dress codes and staying updated through official announcements is recommended, as festival timings may vary slightly according to lunar calendar calculations.
