Jagannatha Temple in Puri is closed for darshan for next fourteen days after the Dev Snana Purnima.
The Jagannath Temple in Puri celebrated Dev Purnima or Snana Purnima festival on June 11, 2025. During the ceremony, the chaturtha murthy of Sri Jagannatha, Baladeva, Subhadra, and Sudarshana received a ceremonial bath from 108 kalashas. After the Maha Snana, the Deities were adorned into Gajanana Besha as an age-old tradition of the temple. The festival concluded by the retirement of Deities into anavasara pindi.
The Deities have been shifted to the anavasara pindi during the early morning hours of June 12, 2025, where They shall be receiving the anavasara seva from the Daitas. This ritual is also called as Nabajaubana. Devotees of Lord Jagannatha believe that the Deities have falled sick and have retired for the medical treatment.
The temple of Lord Jagannatha shall be closed for fourteen days with no darshan of Lord Jagannatha for the public. No one is allowed to have darshan of the Lordships. Devotees visiting temple can however have darshan of other Deities in the temple complex. Unable to bear separation from their dear Lord Jagannatha, devotees are now having darshan at Alarnath following the tradition set by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a Bengali saint, who is also an avatara of Lord Sri Krishna.
The Jagannath Temple shall reopen for darshan on June 25 for a brief period and close again on June 26 evening for the preparation for the Ratha Yatra festival on June 27. Most likely a limited number of devotees will be able to have darshan of Lord Jagannatha during that time. Devotees are requested to plan their visit in accordance with this period. Jai Jagannatha
