In a significant move aimed at preserving the sanctity of temples, the Karnataka government has announced stricter regulations on shooting social media reels and commercial videos inside temple premises. The new guidelines are designed to maintain decorum, prevent disruption to devotees, and protect the spiritual atmosphere of religious sites.

According to officials, filming reels, short videos, or promotional content within temple premises without prior permission will attract penalties. Authorities have clarified that temples are sacred spaces meant for worship and meditation, not for entertainment or commercial content creation.
Under the revised rules, individuals or production teams seeking to shoot professional videos, documentaries, or film sequences inside temple premises must obtain official approval from the concerned temple administration. Mandatory fees will be levied depending on the nature and duration of the shoot. Strict monitoring mechanisms will also be put in place to prevent unauthorized recordings.
Temple management committees have welcomed the decision, stating that uncontrolled filming often leads to overcrowding, disturbance during rituals, and inconvenience to devotees. The move is also expected to regulate influencer activity at popular pilgrimage sites.
The Karnataka government emphasized that while devotional photography for personal memories will not be completely restricted, maintaining discipline and respecting religious sentiments will be mandatory. The new policy aims to balance digital expression with the preservation of tradition and temple sanctity across the state.
