Melukote, Karnataka – The sacred town of Melukote, renowned for its ancient Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple, witnessed a spectacular and devotional celebration on Vijayadashami as Lord Cheluvanarayana was adorned in majestic royal attire. The annual tradition drew thousands of devotees who gathered to witness the divine darshan, marking one of the most spiritually significant events in the temple calendar.
Divine Splendor of Cheluvanarayana Swamy
On Vijayadashami, the presiding deity Cheluvanarayana Swamy, also known as Melukote Narayana, was decorated in regal garments, symbolizing Lord Vishnu’s supreme power and sovereignty. The deity was adorned with a grand crown, pearl-studded ornaments, silk robes, and jewels that highlighted his celestial magnificence. This unique alankara is performed only on Vijayadashami, signifying the victory of dharma over adharma.
Spiritual Grandeur of Vijayadashami
Vijayadashami, also known as Dasara, is celebrated across India as the triumph of good over evil. At Melukote, the day is marked with special pujas, homas, and Vedic recitations, followed by the grand darshan of Lord Narayana in his royal form. Devotees believe that witnessing this attire bestows blessings of prosperity, courage, and divine protection.
Thousands of Devotees Gather
The temple town of Melukote in Mandya district saw an overwhelming turnout of devotees, who braved long queues to seek blessings of the Lord. The air was filled with chants of “Govinda, Narayana”, and the temple corridors resonated with devotional hymns and traditional music. Many devotees expressed deep emotion, calling the sight of the Lord in kingly attire a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Apart from its spiritual significance, the event also highlights the cultural heritage of Karnataka. The Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple, which has deep historical and theological ties to Sri Ramanujacharya, continues to be a central pilgrimage site for Vaishnavites.
