The auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya marked the official beginning of preparations for the globally renowned Rath Yatra. Considered highly sacred for new beginnings, this day traditionally signals the start of chariot construction for Lord Jagannath, drawing devotees from across India.
The traditional Rath Katha Anukula ritual was performed, initiating the construction of grand chariots for Lord Jagannath and His siblings. Work began on the Bada Danda, starting with the chariot of Lord Balabhadra.
The ceremonial placement of the Agyan Mala symbolized divine approval, followed by sacred rituals near the Shreenahar, formally marking the beginning of Rath Yatra 2026 preparations.
Chandan Yatra and Chapa Khela Rituals
Preparations for the 21-day-long Chandan Yatra are in their final stages. A major highlight is the Chapa Khela, where Lord Jagannath participates in ceremonial boat rides at Narendra Pushkarini.
Beautifully decorated boats, featuring artistic swan motifs, add to the visual grandeur of the rituals, attracting devotees and visitors alike.
CM Mohan Majhi Performs Akhi Muthi Anukula in Cuttack
In Cuttack, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi performed the traditional Akhi Muthi Anukula ritual during the Krushak Divas programme.
The event was attended by Deputy CM KV Singh Deo, MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, and several MLAs. The Chief Minister also distributed financial aid under the CM Kisan Yojana and launched the ‘Seed on Wheels’ initiative to support farmers.
