Record-Breaking Pilgrim Attendance
The 2025 Garuda Utsavam attracted over 2.5 lakh devotees, marking it as one of the most attended events in the temple’s history.
Extended Procession Duration
Unlike the usual two-hour procession, this year’s Garuda Seva lasted nearly five hours, concluding around midnight due to the overwhelming crowd. The event began at 6:30 PM with chants of “Govinda, Govinda” echoing through the hills, as devotees gathered to witness Sri Malayappa Swamy seated majestically on the golden Garuda Vahanam.
Lord Adorned in Divine Ornaments
Sri Malayappa Swamy was adorned with sacred garlands like the Andal Mala and Sikhamani Mala from Srivilliputhur, along with the iconic Lakshmi Kasula Haram. His divine appearance was further enhanced by the Makara Kanti and a dazzling diamond-studded golden crown.
Advanced Crowd Management
The event featured over 3,000 CCTV cameras and an AI-powered Integrated Command and Control Centre to monitor and manage the large crowds effectively.

Robust Security Measures
The procession was secured by 5,000 police officers and 1,250 TTD security personnel, ensuring the safety and smooth conduct of the event.
Mythological Significance
Garuda is believed to go to Devalokam to invite gods like Brahma, Indra, Yama, Agni, Kubera, and Vayudeva, along with sages like Vasistha and Vishwamitra, to participate in the festival.
Major Highlights of the Event
- Round-the-clock Annaprasadam and drinking water were made available across more than 120 galleries, accommodating nearly 2 lakh devotees.
- Traffic restrictions were enforced, with two-wheelers prohibited from 9 PM on September 27 until 6 AM on September 29 to ease congestion.
- Digital tracking wristbands were issued to children and vulnerable individuals to enhance safety and prevent them from getting lost in the crowd.
- 23 large LED screens were installed along the four Mada streets, along with 13 additional displays outside the galleries, allowing devotees who couldn’t access the main areas to view the proceedings.
- Medical support was provided through mobile, battery-operated vehicles to assist those in need.
